Women's Basketball at UNC Asheville Wednesday Afternoon

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's basketball team will travel to North Carolina for a Wednesday afternoon tilt at UNC Asheville. The Mocs are on the hunt for a road victory after claiming a win over Kennesaw State at home Monday night.

CHATTANOOGA vs. UNC ASHEVILLE
The Mocs are 5-0 against the Bulldogs dating back to 1996. This will be just the second game played in Asheville. The Mocs are 3-0 against UNCA at home, 1-0 on the road and have a neutral-site victory in overtime in 1997.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET | Chattanooga 61, UNC Asheville 51
The Mocs started each half with a run and led wire-to-wire last year at the Roundhouse, beating the Bulldogs 62-51. UTC started the game on a 14-0 run and led 20-6 at the end of the first quarter, shooting 62.9 percent. UTC shot 50 percent in the second quarter and led 33-22 at the half. Chattanooga shot 48.3 percent for the game and was led by Dena Jarrells with 19 points. Abbey Corenlius tallied her third double-double of the year with 12 points and 16 rebounds and Brooke Hampel was perfect from the field for 13 points. UNCA shot 30.5 percent for the game and the Mocs limited their top performers to just 21 points combined, well below their average 33.4 points per game.
 
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (3-3)
The Mocs evened their record with a win over Kennesaw State at home in their last outing. UTC scored a season-high 72 points in the win and dropped in nine 3-pointers. UTC is averaging 60.0 points and outscoring opponents by 9.7 points per game. On the boards, the Mocs are averaging 34.8 boards per game and outrebounding opponents by 3.3 per game.
 
Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the team in scoring with 18.3, shooting 47.6 percent from the field and has a team-best 16 3-pointers. Abbey Cornelius and Addie Grace Porter lead UTC on the boards with 7.0 rebounds per game. Cornelius is the only other Chattanooga player in double figures with 12.3 points per game and has a team-best 12 blocked shots and is second in the SoCon for blocks per game. Porter is fourth on the team in scoring with 7.3 points per game and is shooting 42.9 percent from long range with nine 3-pointers on the year. Raven Thompson is third on the team in scoring (9.8) and rebounding (6.8) and has flirted with a double-double three times this season. She is shooting 47.5 percent from the field and leads the team in steals.
 
ABOUT UNC ASHEVILLE (2-1)
The Bulldogs opened the season with a win over Converse then fell 86-40 at Florida. In their last outing on Nov. 18, UNCA beat Queens (NC) by an 11-point margin (68-57). They are averaging 62.3 points per game and have a 6.3 scoring advantage while shooting 37 percent from the field. On the boards, UNCA averages 44 rebounds per game.
 
Mallory Bruce is the only UNCA player averaging double figures with 11.0 points per game and has 6.7 rebounds per game. McKinley Brooks-Sumpter is averaging 9.7 points and a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game. Jordaynia Ivie is third on the team in points per game with 9.3 and has a team-high for steals.
