Mocs Remain on the Road at Ohio Sunday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs head to Ohio for a Sunday afternoon game at Ohio for just the second meeting between the two teams.
 
This will be the second meeting all-time between the two teams. The Bobcats came away with a 70-58 victory over the Mocs in 2019 at the Roundhouse. Chattanooga was scheduled to make the return trip to the Ohio in 2020, but the game was postponed due to the pandemic.

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (7-5)
Chattanooga is 7-5 on the year, getting a win over North Alabama in its last outing. The Mocs lead the Southern Conference in scoring defense with foes averaging 52.6 points per game. The Mocs points given up this season was 69 at Tennessee.
 
Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the Mocs in scoring and three-point shooting. She has scored in double digits 10 out of 12 games and topped 20 points five times. Raven Thompson leads the Mocs in rebounding and is second on the team in scoring. She recorded her first double-double at UNC Asheville. She has double-digit rebounds three times. Abbey Cornelius became the 30th member of the Mocs 1,000 point club at UNA. She is just the third player at UTC to have 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocked shots. She is third on the team in scoring and second for rebounds while leading UTC in blocked shots. Addie Grace Porter is second on the team in rebounding and leads the Southern Conference in defensive rebounds. She has a team-best 3.0 assists per game.
 
ABOUT OHIO (2-6)
Ohio is 2-6 overall with back-to-back wins over Indiana State (74-62) and Dayton (52-51). The Bobcats lost its last two games to George Washington and Cincinnati. While averaging 62.6 points per game, the Bobcats are being outscored by nearly 11 points per game. They are also outrebounded by more than 12 boards per game. Ohio lets it fly from deep, averaging 7.1 3-pointers per game, making 57-of-217 on the year.
 
Yaya Felder and Caitlyn Kroll are the two Bobcats in double figures with Felder leading the team with 17.3 per game. Kroll is averaging 10.1 points and a team-best 5.5 rebounds per game. Felder posted a double-double against Dayton with 20 points and 10 rebounds with two assists and three steals. Kross has scored in double figures four times with three out the last four games.

The Chattanooga women's basketball team went on a 17-0 run in the fourth quarter to come away with a 55-44 win over North Alabama at Flowers Hall Thursday night. Defense kept the game close for the Mocs who held North Alabama to its second-lowest scoring output this season, 30 points below its average 74.1 points per game and stifled the Lions 3-point shooting, holding them to nearly half their average. North Alabama was 6-of-16 from the arc and the nation's leading 3-point shooter, Jade Moore, was 0-for-2 from deep with just four points in the game. Chattanooga trailed 26-25 at the half and ended the third tied 35-35 after taking the lead for the first time in the frame. It would be the fourth that saw the Mocs take over. With 8:21 to play, UNA took a 39-36 lead on a layup. Chattanooga's Raven Thompson found her way through the paint shortly after reentering the game, sparking a 17-0 run. She would score 11 of her game-high 18 points in the run. The Mocs were 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the field in the fourth quarter and 19-of-45 (42.2%) for the game while making 2-of-7 from the 3-point line and 15-of-19 from the free throw line. North Alabama was 17-of-47 from the floor, 6-of-16 from the arc and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. Chattanooga outscored the Lions 20-9 in the final frame and improved to 7-5 overall. North Alabama falls to 5-4 on the year. Raven Thompson led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Sigrun Olafsdottir scored a season-high 10 points with both of the Mocs lone 3-pointers. Addie Grace Porter was just one rebound shy of her career-high, grabbing a game-best 12. Senior Abbey Cornelius climbed her way into the Mocs' record books as she became the 30th member of the UTC 1,000-Point Club. With 15 points in the game, she has 1,014 and is tied for 27th for her career. She added 11 rebounds for her second double-double this season. Chattanooga outrebounded the Lions 37-23 and had eight second chance points on seven offensive boards. The Mocs outscored North Alabama 28-20 in the paint but gave up 18 points on 17 rebounds while scoring 15 on 18 UNA miscues.

"Our defense, my goodness. I never thought this fast we would be as good as we are defensively. I think they average 74 points a game. We hold him to 44 [points], no threes in the second half. I thought we were super, super disciplined on that end of the floor which allowed our offense to find it."

MILESTONE REACHED FOR ABBEY CORNELIUS
Graduate Abbey Cornelius, in her fifth season, became the 30th member of the Mocs 1,000-Point Club. She reached the milestone at North Alabama and moved to 27th with 1,014 by the end of the game. She need 34 rebounds to become the ninth player to reach 800 career boards.
 
THIRD TIMES THE CHARM
Graduate Abbey Cornelius became just the third person in Chattanooga women's basketball history to score 1,000 points, record 700 rebounds and 100 blocked shots. The other two are Alex Anderson, 2004-08 (1,732/1,010/221) and current graduate assistant Jasmine Joyner, 2013-17 (1,319/982/436).
 
WINNING THE DEFENSIVE BATTLE
The Mocs lead the Southern Conference in scoring defense (52.6) and field goal percentage defense (.357), second in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.276), rebouding defense (31.6), defensive rebounds (27.0) and defensive rebounding percentage (.757). In the NCAA, the Mocs are 17th in scoring defense, 45th in field goal percentage defense and 82nd in 3-point field goal percentage defense.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
Four of the Mocs five wins have come at home. The Mocs started the season with a win over Young Harris by 26 points (65-39). After fall by a five-point margin to Austin Peay, the Mocs blew Tennessee State away by 29 points (60-31). UTC scored a season-high 72 points against Kennesaw State, coming away with a 13-point win (72-59) and won its third straight game beating King 62-47.
 
LONG-RANGE BOMBERS
The Mocs have made at least one 3-pointer in 721 consecutive games dating back to December 1999. That's more nearly 23 years! Chattanooga reached the 700-consecutive game mark at Wofford on January 27, 2022 in Spartanburg, S.C. According to current unofficial research, this is the second-longest streak in the nation behind Iowa State who has more than 850 dating back to 1995.
