Cornelius Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Chattanooga's Abbey Cornelius was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.

Cornelius, a graduate student, carries a 4.0 GPA, working towards her Master's in Business Administration.

Last week in the Mocs renewed rivalry with Marshall, Cornelius recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She was 6-of-11 from the field and dished out two assists.

She is third on the team in scoring, second in rebounds and leads the Mocs in blocked shots. She became the 30th member of the Mocs 1,000-Point Club and just the third player in program history to record 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocked shots. She is 15 rebounds away from 800 and ranks 26th all-time for points.

This is the sixth time in three seasons that Cornelius has earned the honor. She was selected twice in each of the last two seasons and this is her second this year.

Chattanooga returns home after a month on the road to host Jacksonville State Thursday, December 29 at the Roundhouse. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m. She will be honored prior to the game for topping 1,000 points.

Tickets are available online at GoMocs.com or at the McKenzie Arena box office. The box office, located at Gate 3, will be open one hour prior to tip off on game day.
