MURFREESBORO – The Chattanooga Mocs' softball team concluded the MTSU Invitational going 2-2 in the two-day tournament. The squad fell to Northern Iowa 11-1 in Friday's opener before defeating MTSU 3-1.

Chattanooga moved to 11-12 on the season while Northern Iowa improved to 8-9 and MTSU dropped to 11-14.

The Mocs return to Frost Stadium this week as they host two doubleheaders and the Chatty's Patty's. The week begins with a Tuesday doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. vs. Georgia State.

GAME ONE RECAP
Northern Iowa got the scoring started with a four-run first. The Panthers netted six hits to plate the four runs. After another run in the second and two in the third, UNI held a 7-0 lead.

Kaili Phillips cut into the Panthers lead with a solo home run to left in the fourth. UNI scored four more in the bottom half on a three-run homer and an unearned run to secure its 11-1 victory.

Hannah Wood picked up the loss, allowing the four runs in the first. The Mocs used three other pitchers in Reagan Lowrie, Izzy Alley and Kat Thompson.

Emily Coltharp and Phillips recorded the two hits for the Mocs.

GAME TWO RECAP
The run production in the first inning continued in the Mocs' final game of the MTSU Invitational. This time, it was Chattanooga that produced in the run column with Acelynn Sellers driving in Coltharp and Olivia Lipari on a single down the third base line.

MTSU and UTC were both unable to get runs across until the top of the fourth when Gracey Kruse drove in Presley Williamson from second with an RBI double to put the Mocs up 3-0.

After the leadoff batter reached on an error in the seventh, MTSU got on the board in its half of the inning courtesy of a sac fly. The hosts had two in scoring position with one out and Brooke Parrot struck out the next hitter before the final batter of the game popped up to third.

Parrott tossed a complete game and allowed just four hits, one unearned run and fanned three.

Lipari and Williamson both registered two hits apiece.
