ABOUT CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga finished the regular season with a league-best 24-7 overall record and 14-4 tally inside league play. The Mocs picked up its first regular season SoCon title since 2015-16 and just the second since 1994. UTC set a program record this year with 12 road victories, which also led all teams in Division I basketball.
PARIS NAMED SOCON COACH OF THE YEAR
Lamont Paris became the fourth UTC head coach to claim the Coaches Coach of the Year award and the first since Matt McCall took honors in 2015-16. Mack McCarthy was a back-to-back winner of the award in 1991-92 and 1992-93.
Â
Paris led Chattanooga to a league-best 24-7 overall record this season while capturing a school record and national-best 12 road wins. Over the past three seasons, Paris has guided UTC to a stellar 62-28 (.689) overall record while playing to a 33-19 (.635) mark in SoCon play.
Â
MALACHI SMITH NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Malachi Smith is the program's first player of the year since Johnny Taylor following the 1996-97 season. Smith is just the fifth Moc to win the Coaches Player of the Year award and the fourth to ever claim the Malcom U. Pitt Award (media).
Â
JEAN-BAPTISTE SELECTED TO ALL-SOCON
Graduate guard
David Jean-Baptiste was selected to the All-SoCon Second Team, in each of the two polls, for the second-straight year following his noteworthy final campaign in a Mocs uniform.
Â
Jean-Baptiste averaged 14.6 points per game this season while knocking down 83 three pointers, ranking 13th and fifth, respectively, in the SoCon. For his career, Jean-Baptiste ranks fourth all-time in scoring in program history (1,699) while holding the school's three-point record with 282.
LISTENING TO THE MOCS
RADIO NOTE: WFLI added 96.1 and 100.3 FM to their arsenal of stations. The previous agreement had the Mocs on 97.7 FM and 1070 AM which was a good base of operation. Starting this weekend, 96.1 takes the place of 97.7 while 100.3 is added. The change to 96.1 adds the audio reach by roughly 100,000 homes while 100.3 expands the overall coverage further north of the Tennessee River especially strengthening the signal in Hixson and Soddy-Daisy.
Â
Mocs Sports Network is developed by Mocs Sports Properties, the Learfield-owned multimedia rights holder for Mocs athletics. MSN broadcasts every men's and women's basketball and football game as well as "Chat with the Mocs", a weekly coach's show covering all things Mocs.
Â
Mocs Sports Network Stations: 96.1 FM, 100.3 FM & 1070 AM.
