CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Put away the Blue and Gold for one day and dig out the black gear for the women's basketball Black Out game Thursday, January 12 against Samford at The McKenzie Arena.
The Mocs head into the second week of Southern Conference play with a 1-0 mark, just behind Samford who swept both league games games played in the opening week.
The Mocs will sport black uniforms in a BLACK OUT. The first 100 fans will receive a t-shirt at the gate.

MOCS vs. SAMFORD
The Mocs and Bulldogs first met in 1998 in Chattanooga as non-conference foes and battled to a 72-65 overtime win in favor of UTC. The advantage in the series is in the Mocs favor 27-10 and UTC holds a 20-8 lead in the SoCon regular season since Samford joined the SoCon in 2008. At The McKenzie Arena, UTC leads the series 15-4.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
The Chattanooga Mocs battled back in the second half to cut the Samford lead to six points, but it wouldn't be enough as UTC fell 77-67. Samford led by 10 at the end of the opening quarter and stretched the lead to its largest of the game, 31-14, on an 8-1 run less than three minutes into the second. The Mocs, however, responded with its own run with eight straight points, cutting the Bulldogs advantage to 31-22 at the 4:20 mark of the second. Samford pushed back and led by 12 at the break. In the third, the Mocs put together a 16-5 scoring sequence, cutting Samford's lead to 52-46 with 2:21 remaining in the quarter. UTC would get as close as six again, 72-66, in the fourth on
Dena Jarrells' third 3-pointer of the game, but it would get no closer. Chattanooga, led by
Brooke Hampel, shot 44.6 percent (25-56) from the field and 7-of-20 from deep while making just 10-of-16 from the free throw line.
Brooke Hampel went 3-of-5 from deep with a career-high 18 points. Joining her in double figures was
Sigrun Olafsdottir and Jarrells. Olafsdottir had a season-high 15 points with five rebounds and three assists. Jarrells drained three from deep and added 14 points for her fourth double-digit game in the last five. Samford was 29-of-57 (50.9%) on the day led by Andrea Cournoyer with a game-high 28 points. She was 6-of-8 from the 3-point line and grabbed five rebounds and four steals. Sussy Ngulefac had 13, Natalie Armstrong scored 11 and Audra Leipold chipped in 10. Annie Ramil pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Chattanooga beat instate SoCon rival ETSU on the Bucs home court by a 53-50 margin.
Yazz Wazeerud-Din led the Mocs with 19 points while
Raven Thompson, with 17 points, shot 57 percent in the game and was 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Addie Grace Porter had a game-high 13 rebounds along with three assists and a steal.
ABOUT SAMFORD (8-9, 2-0 SoCon)
Samford took wins from Western Carolina (59-47) and UNCG (76-66) at home to improve to 8-9 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play. Andrea (Cournoyer) Bailey led the Bulldogs with 20 points per game last week and averaged seven rebounds with seven steals and six assists. She scored 22 points against the Catamounts with six rebounds and four steals. Two days later she shot 50 percent from the field for 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Sanaa Redmond was in double figures both games with 13 points per game. Carly Heidger scored 16 against the Spartans and averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
FRESHMAN MAKING WAVES
Rookie
Raven Thompson has started every game for the Mocs this season. She leads the Mocs in rebounding (7.8) and is second for points (13.6). At the charity stripe, she leads UTC making 79.6 percent of her attempts (74-93). In the SoCon she is seventh in scoring, third in rebounds and third in field goal percentage and leads all freshmen in the league in all three categories. In the NCAA she is ranked among the best in six categories. Among freshmen, she is second for free throws made, fourth for free throw attempts and 10
th for free throw percentage. She is 12
th for points scored, sixth for rebounds and seventh for rebounds per game among freshman.
