CHATTANOOGA vs. UNCG
The Mocs and Spartans have met 60 times with UTC holding a 47-12 lead in the series that dates back to 1998. Chattanooga is 21-4 while playing at home and leads the regular season conference series by a 39-8 mark. The teams split the two games last year with each winning at home.
Â
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Chattanooga held a slim 26-25 lead at halftime, but it soon fell aside as UNCG outscored the Mocs 17-4 in the fourth quarter, leading 41-30 heading into the final period. However, the Mocs went on a 15-0 run in the fourth sparked by a Spartan turnover. That miscue became
Karsen Murphy's second 3-pointer of the game and her first of three in the fourth quarter. More turnovers helped the Mocs cut the lead to single digits, 49-40 with 4:18 to play.
Brooke Hampel took advantage of a pair of UNCG mishaps and connected on back-to-back 3-pointers. She had eight points in the run and cut the lead to 49-48 with 2:49 on the clock. UNCG pushed the lead to 52-48, but Murphy hit from deep again to pull Chattanooga to within a point, 52-51. UNCG went up 54-51 and Murphy's 3-pointer at the buzzer tied it up and sent the game in to overtime. In extra time, Chattanooga and UNCG held an even battle with the score tied 61-61 with 14 seconds to play. The Mocs drove the lane but a turnover gave the ball to the Spartans who advanced the ball for the final play. Aja Boyd stumbled in her drive to the basket and a heave found its way into the net with 1.9 seconds to play. Chattanooga's last chance at the buzzer would not fall and the Mocs fell 63-61 to the Spartans in overtime.
