Maxwell Headed to East-West Shrine Bowl

Devonnsha Maxwell

Devonnsha Maxwell is representing the Chattanooga Mocs in the East-West Shrine Bowl next month in Las Vegas.

CHATTANOOGA---Chattanooga Mocs defensive tackle Devonnsha Maxwell has added a stop to his NFL journey. One the nation's premier interior linemen, Maxwell accepted an invitation this week from the East-West Shrine Bowl in Las Vegas. The annual Shrine Game is Thursday, Feb. 2.

Maxwell is headed to Orlando for the annual Hula Bowl. He committed to play there in December. He's just the second Moc to play in it (1998-Kolu Fainuulelei) and sixth to join a Shrine Bowl roster.

"D-Max will make the most of these opportunities," Coach Rusty Wright shared. "He put a lot on tape the last four years leading our defense. He is ready to continue that in Orlando and Las Vegas. We look forward to following his path to the next level."

The Shrine Game features coaching staffs from two NFL teams. Those staffs have not been assigned by the league office at this time, but it's based on draft position closest to the start of the draft. It's a great opportunity for Maxwell to make a strong first impression.

Maxwell earned All-America honors for the third consecutive season in 2022. He's the school and Southern Conference all-time sack leader with 37.5 breaking former Mocs standout, and New Orleans Saints draft pick, Davis Tull's 37.0 from 2011-14.

Tull also accepted an invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl in 2015. He was joined in St. Petersburg, Fla., that year by defensive tackle Derrick Lott. The duo went on to the 2015 NFL Combine with Tull going to the Saints in the fifth round in the draft, while Lott signed a free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans before spending his first season on Tampa Bay's practice squad.

Since 1925, the East-West Shrine Bowl has benefited Shriners Children's and its mission to provide excellent specialty care for children. This unique health care system provides excellent care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate, regardless of the families' ability to pay for services. This special game helps raise the profile of Shriners Children, so it can continue to offer hope and healing and reach more kids in more places. Through the experience, everyone connected with the East-West Shrine Bowl gains a deeper understanding of the amazing patients who receive care at Shriners Children's, and the ways that they can support the health care system.
