Men’s Basketball Welcomes Evansville & SEMO to McKenzie Arena This Weekend, Hosts 2023 Coke Zero Sugar Classic

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team looks to continue its solid start to the 2023-24 season while hosting the 2023 Coke Zero Sugar Classic Friday through Sunday.

CHATTANOOGA (Nov. 22, 2023) --- Holiday Hoops. With the Thanksgiving weekend in full swing, the Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team gets set to host the 2023 Coke Zero Sugar Classic this Friday through Sunday inside McKenzie Arena, welcoming in non-conference opponents Evansville and SEMO for the weekend event.
 
(RV) Chattanooga (4-0) and Evansville (4-0) will kick things off on Friday in a battle of undefeated squads. Evansville and SEMO (1-3) will match-up in a neutral site contest on Saturday before Chattanooga and SEMO wrap things up on Sunday in the finale. All three games will tip-off at 2 p.m. ET and games ONLY involving UTC will be streamed LIVE on ESPN+.

MOCS SOAR TO 4-0 WITH ANOTHER COMEBACK
Chattanooga (4-0) eliminated a second-half deficit for the second-straight game and battled its way to a hard-fought 68-63 victory over in-state foe Tennessee Tech on Sunday afternoon inside McKenzie Arena. Trailing by as much as 11 in the first half, Chattanooga led for less than six minutes during the victory. Sam Alexis led the way with a 22-point, 15-rebound, 3-block performance while Honor Huff chipped in with 16 points.
 
CHATTANOOGA MENTIONED IN AP TOP 25 POLL
Following its 4-0 start to the season with a win over ACC-member Louisville included, Chattanooga (2) was among 19 teams in the receiving votes category of the latest AP Top 25 poll which was released on Monday. It's the first votes received for the program since 2015-16.
 
SAM THE MAN ALEXIS
Big man Sam Alexis continues to dominate the paint in the early going of 2023-24. He finished Sunday with 22 points on 9-of-13 FG while adding in 15 rebounds. Alexis is currently the only player in NCAA DI basketball who is averaging at least 15.0 points, 12.0 rebounds & 3.0 blocks per game this season.
 
DEFENSE WINS
The Mocs have allowed just 60.5 ppg & have held opponents to 37.1% FG & 26.8% 3PT FG shooting during the 4-0 start. All three of those numbers currently lead the SoCon while the 60.5 ppg allowed is tied for 10th fewest in NCAA DI among teams who have played four or more games.
