Women's Basketball Hosts Furman Thursday in Breast Cancer Awareness Game

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's basketball team will close out the regular season home games this weekend beginning with a Thursday night matchup against Furman in it's Breast Cancer Awareness.
 
The Mocs will wear jerseys to honor the fight against breast cancer, made possible by donors to the program.

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (15-10, 7-3)
The Mocs are on a three-game win streak and tied with Wofford for first place in the Southern Conference standings. Chattanooga is second in the SoCon standings for scoring defense, only allowing opponents 54.8 points per game. UTC is 20th in the nation. The Mocs outscore opponents by more than four points on average and have 2.4 more rebounds per game.
 
Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the team in scoring and 3-point shooting, while Addie Grace Porter is the Mocs top rebounder. Abbey Cornelius has a team-best for blocked shots and freshman Raven Thompson is closing in on UTC's free throw shooting record.
 
ABOUT FURMAN (10-15, 2-8)
After snapping a five-game losing skid, the Paladins beat Western Carolina at home last week then fell at home to UNCG. Furman is stingy on defense, only allowing foes to make 27.3 percent of their 3-point attempts. They are the top rebounding team in the league with 42.5 boards per game and a 7.4 rebounding margin. They lead the conference on the offensive glass with 17.0 boards per game.
 
Grace van Rij leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points and has 6.7 rebounds per game. Sydney James leads the Paladins in rebounding with eight per game followed closely by Jada Session with 7.9 per game. Jaelyn Acker is second on the team in scoring and the only other Paladin in double digits with 11.4 points per game. She has a team-best 49 3-pointers while Janay Outen has a SoCon-best 86 assists.
 
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
The Mocs led by as much as 11 points in the third quarter but went cold in the fourth, only managing two free throws on four attempts in the quarter. The Paladins battled back and tied the game, forcing not one, but two overtime meetings. UTC would come away with the win by a 51-44 margin in double-OT. Addie Grace Porter recorded her first double-double with 11 points and a career-high 20 rebounds.
