MOCS POST HISTORIC 109-61 WIN OVER VMI
- Chattanooga (10-6, 2-1 SoCon) made it two-straight with a dominating 109-61 victory over VMI on Thursday evening inside McKenzie Arena. The +48 margin of victory marked the largest MOV over a DI opponent in program history. The 109-point output tied for fifth-most in program history against a DI opponent and most since 125 against The Citadel in 2016. Eight Mocs reached double figures in scoring, most on record at UTC.
CHATTANOOGA/UNCG HISTORY
- Chattanooga & UNCG will meet for the 55th time in the all-time series with both programs playing to an even 27-27 record in the previous 54 matchups. The Spartans have won the last three meetings and five of the last six with three of those five victories occurring inside McKenzie Arena. UNCG ran away with a 93-76 victory, also on CBS Sports Network, inside the Roundhouse in the last meeting on 2/18/23.
HISTORIC THREE-POINT STREAK CONTINUES
- After knocking down 17 threes in Thursday's win over VMI, Chattanooga has now made six or more 3PT FGs in 51-straight games which is the longest active streak of its kind in NCAA DI. The current streak, which began in
Dan Earl's first game at UTC, is now tied for 10th-longest in NCAA DI history, tying North Dakota State (2016-18). An Earl-led squad has now made five or more 3PT FGs in 83-straight games when factoring in his VMI tenure.
SCORING AT WILL ON THURSDAY
- Chattanooga's whopping 109-61 victory over VMI on Thursday set records which included the largest margin of victory (+48) over an NCAA DI opponent in program history. The +48 mark bested the previous record of +42, an 88-46 victory over Samford more than 40 years ago on 12/18/81. The 109 points ties for fifth-most in program history against a DI opponent & marked the most in a game against a DI opp since dropping a program-record 125 points in a 125-85 win over The Citadel on 2/1/2016.
THREES GET DEGREES
- It's no secret that the
Dan Earl School of Basketball's theme is the deep ball & the students executed during Thursday's historic win. UTC finished 17-36 (47.2%) from 3PT territory, tying the program record for 3PT FG's made in a game against a SoCon opponent. It's the third time in program history with 17 3PT FG's against a SoCon opponent and first since a 17-31 (54.8%) effort against Samford... also on January 11 (2020).
BENCH PRODUCTION HUGE IN WIN
- UTC used a massive 55-point output from the reserves during Thursday's win over VMI, led by
Randy Brady's career-high 16 points (5-7 FG, 5-6 3PT). It marked the most bench points in a game since 58 against Hiwassee back on 11/27/2018.
