Chattanooga (8-6, 0-1 SoCon) looks to snap a three-game skid on Saturday night after suffering three-straight defeats on the road against tough opponents which included Milwaukee, now No. 25 Auburn, and a Samford squad who has won their last 12.
Trey Bonham (21) and
Honor Huff (18) combined for 39 points and eight threes during Wednesday's league-opening 89-74 loss at Samford as UTC couldn't shake off a cold-spell in the second half.
Preseason-favorite Furman (6-8, 0-1 SoCon) also enters Saturday night's contest looking to get things back on track after numerous injuries have plagued the defending champs in the early stages of 2023-24. The Paladins have dropped two-straight which included a home loss to NCAA DII-member Anderson (SC) last Saturday and a road defeat at UNCG on Wednesday.

Chattanooga ∙ Furman ∙ SoCon
MOCS DROP THIRD-STRAIGHT, FALL 89-74 AT SAMFORD IN SOCON OPENER
- Chattanooga (8-6, 0-1 SoCon) suffered its third-straight defeat, all coming on the road, after falling 89-74 at league-foe Samford in the Southern Conference opener on Wednesday night in Birmingham. The Mocs surrendered 17 3PT FG's to the Bulldogs which were the most allowed since Davidson (17) in February 2012.
Trey Bonham led all UTC scorers with 21 points on 7-11 FG (4-5 3PT) while
Honor Huff added 18 on 6-12 FG (4-10 3PT) to notch his 12th game this season with 15 or more points.
CHATTANOOGA/FURMAN HISTORY
- Chattanooga and Furman will meet for the 98th time in the all-time series history & for the first time since the 2023 Southern Conference Tournament title game in March. The Mocs & Paladins met in each of the past two SoCon Tournament championship games with UTC capturing the NCAA Tournament bid in 2022 and Furman in 2023. UTC leads the entire series 57-40.
CENTURY MARK MILESTONE WATCH
- Head coach
Dan Earl sits at 99 career wins in his 9th season as a NCAA Division I HC. Earl posted 73 wins at VMI ('15-22) before earning 18 in his first year at UTC in '22-23.
THREE-POINT STREAKS CONTINUE
- After knocking down 11 threes at Samford Wednesday, Chattanooga has now made six or more 3PT FGs in 49-straight games which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division I basketball and a streak that began in
Dan Earl's first game at UTC. In addition, an Earl-led squad has now made five or more 3PT FGs in 81-straight games when factoring in his final season at VMI in 2021-22.
BONHAM'S BACK & PRODUCING AT HIGH RATE
- Due to the current two-time NCAA transfer rule suspension, Florida (& VMI) guard
Trey Bonham has made an immediate impact since his first action on 12/16 @AAMU. Bonham is averaging 16.8p, 5.2r, & 3.0a through five games & has recorded 14+ points in four of the five. He's posted two 21+ scoring efforts including a 25-point performance at Milwaukee (12/22) and a 21-point night at Samford (1/3).
SHAKING THE FIRST-HALF RUST
- Entering Wednesday's game at Samford, UTC had been outscored 126-76 in the 1H of the previous three games while shooting 27-95 (28.4%) from the floor & 8-45 (17.7%) from three during those spans. The Mocs found an answer Wednesday night, shooting 17-31 (54.8%) from the field & 6-16 (37.5%) from deep to help register 43 first-half points, the most 1H points against a DI opponent this season.
DEFENSIVE MISCUES ALLOW SCORING SPREE
- Chattanooga has surrendered 85 or more points in each of the three games during its three-game skid including 190 points over the last two. It's the first three-game stretch allowing 85 or more since a streak of four from January 12-24, 2013. The 190 points allowed in back-to-back games is the most since 194 November 24-28, 2013.
