PREVIEW: Wrestlers Open Season in Virginia

Ethan Vergara and the Chattanooga Mocs wrestling squad opens the 2024-25 season this weekend in Virginia.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs wrestling squad begins the 2024-25 campaign this weekend in both dual and tournament action. The Mocs open with Virginia Tech Friday night before grappling with the field Saturday at the Southeast Open. Both events are in Salem, Va.
 
The Mocs return 19 to this year's roster along with a promising set of freshmen and transfers. Friday night's lineup could include as many as nine who have seen dual action in the past for the squad or as few as eight.
 
Five are currently ranked in one of five collegiate rankings. They're led by Isaiah Powe who is No. 17 on WrestlStat and 19 in the FloWrestling rankings. The list includes Noah Castillo, #29 on Intermat and WrestleStat at 157, Sergio Desiante, #29 on Wrestle Stat and #33 on Intermat at 174, Kamdyn Munro, #29 on WrestleStat at 184 and Connor Strong, #30 on Intermat at 197.
 
Castillo and Strong are not in the lineup for either event this weekend.

  • Vergara spent the summer with the Puerto Rico team in Paris at the Olympics as a training partner.
  • Camper was NY State Champion as a senior and was ranked No. 13 in the country by FloWrestling.
