TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --- Chattanooga's
Lesley Boyd finished 10
th overall and was named to the NCAA All-South Region Team Friday morning at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. She led the women to a 17
th overall finish and
Jack Martin placed 62
nd to lead the men at 22
nd in the team rankings.
"Both teams did not quite have the team performance we had hoped for due to illness and injuries to a couple key runners but individually had some outstanding races," Mocs head coach
Andy Meyer said.
Halfway through the race she was sitting in the 20
th spot and moved up to 11
th at the 4,000 meter mark. Boyd was a high as seventh in the 6-kilometer race and finished with a time of 20:15.1, 10
th overall.
"Lesley continues to impress us with her determination and strength," Meyer said. "She got out strong and ran off the pack of leaders for the first 3k and as runners fell off the pace in the last 3k she stayed focused and passed several runners."
She earned her second all-region honor after finishing 19
th at the 2023 championships.
Maddie Wheatcroft was the Mocs second finisher 21:56.5. She was followed by freshman
Amanda Ferrante with a time of 22:42.2 in her first NCAA Region meet.
Andrea Ellis (22:48.8) and Lexi Foley (23:12.7) rounded out the scoring for Chattanooga who was 17
th overall with 552 points.

Jack Martin also was able to accelerate through the field and fellow sophomore
Riley Hanson had another very impressive showing," Meyer said.
Martin ran the men's 10K in a time of 31:35.6, leading the men to a 22
nd place finish.
Riley Hanson was the Mocs second finisher at 33:21.0, a personal best for the sophomore.
Following close behind was freshman
Derek Mitchell with a time of 33:31.1 and senior
Aaron Isbell at 33:45.6. Isbell closed out his collegiate career Friday along with
Eamonn O'Bryant (34:09.3),
Kaigen Mulkey (34:28.9) and
Lane Hollis.
"We will miss them as they have had very good careers here," Meyer said. "We wish them the very best."
Boyd will find out Saturday if she has one more race in her collegiate cross country career with a possible at-large bid to the NCAA National Championship in Verona, Wis.
Alabama took first in the women's race ahead of Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Lipcomb. The Tide and Gators earned the region's automatic bid. Alabama also won the men's race followed by Ole Miss, Tennessee, Florida State and Auburn. Bama and the Rebels received the men's automatic bid.
