CHATTANOOGA---A long day one is in the books at the Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear. Four Chattanooga Mocs are headed to their respective podiums tomorrow with Jackson Hurst and Sergio Desiante still in the championship hunt.

Hurst got it started toppling the 5 seed at 165, Clayton Ulrey of Northern Colorado. The 13-12 decision was one of the most entertaining bouts of day one. Hurst went on to prove it wasn't an upset as much as an introduction to the 2025 field.

He followed with a major decision of Virginia Tech's Jackson Spires to reach the quarterfinals. Next came a late takedown to take out Mannix Morgan from Oklahoma. Hurst meets the top seed Gunner Flipowicz from Army in the semis.

Desiante was just as dazzling at 174. His trip to the final four started with a major decision over Gaetano Console from Duke. North Dakota State's Devin Wesley was dispatched by a decision that fell one short of a major. Clarion's John Worthing was the next to fall to the Tampa native by decision in the quarters. Fourth-ranked Lennox Wolak of Virginia Tech awaits in the semifinals.

Two other Mocs clinch podium berths, both at 133. No. 18 Blake Boarman rolled through the bracket before a disappointing 9-6 quarters loss to North Dakota State's Kyle Burwick in overtime. He shook that off the get a takedown in the final seconds to get past Carter Schmidt to keep hopes of a top 3 finish alive.

True freshman Bryce Luna is right along with him. He battled through the consolation bracket after an opening loss to 2-seed Dom Serrano from Northern Colorado. Four straight wins set up a date with TK Davis in consolation round of four. There is the possibility if they keep winning, Boarman and Luna would vie for third place sitting on opposite sides of the bracket.

"Jackson's somebody that we look to as a leader of our program," Coach Kyle Ruschell said. "He wrestles hard and does a lot of the things that we expect our guys to do and is a great role model. It's great to see him have some success especially after a tough road trip before the break. The whole team rallied around him, and we were very excited for him because they know how hard he works.

"I think (the four medalists) are wrestling the way we expect. They wrestled hard tonight. Even Dayne who let that last one slip away at the end, but I think our whole team needs to continue to be like that. Wrestling hard, keeping ourselves in matches and understanding it's not easy. It's really hard as a division I wrestler.

"I expect that same thing out of them tomorrow. We need the rest of the team to rally behind that and wrestle with that same mindset."

Army holds the team lead with 97 points. Oklahoma is close by in second with 92.5. Penn State is third with 77 points ahead of North Carolina (68).

The Black Knights have a tournament-high seven in the semifinals and nine total remaining. The Sooners also have nine with four semifinalists and five more in the consolations. North Dakota State (3/3) and Virginia (2/4) clinched six medalists each.

The doors open at 9 a.m., Sunday with matches running throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. The finals start at 3 p.m.
