Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Saturday, SoCon Preseason Poll Announced

Kamdyn Munro

Kamdyn Munro and the Chattanooga Mocs will be on display Saturday for the Blue-Gold matches after learning they’re the preseason pick to win the Southern Conference.

First Look
The Chattanooga Mocs wrestling team has an exciting Saturday planned but got a good bit of news on Thursday as well. The Blue-Gold Scrimmage looms in the fabulous new wrestling room on Saturday with true challenge matches and lineup implications. But Thursday is the announcement that the Mocs are picked to win the Southern Conference with two tabbed to the preseason all-league team.

First Take
"It's a preseason poll so all it means is we did a lot right this summer. We're excited about this group and believe in it. The time is coming fast and starts this weekend (with Blue-Gold)." – Coach Kyle Ruschell

First Chance
The first opportunity to see the Mocs in action is in the annual Blue-Gold Matches. This year's event is Saturday, Oct. 25, in the wrestling room at Maclellan Gym. There's a slight change to the day as it is now a tournament format building a depth chart to go by in the early going. It should provide an exciting day for fans and competitors alike.

Prelims are at 10 a.m., with the main card taking center ring at 2 p.m. Admission is FREE.

Final Thoughts
"We have a lot of new guys on the team that we don't really know what to expect in match situations. We wanted to put them in those scenarios that makes it feel a little bit more like a tournament. Two hours, you wrestle. You take some time off, just like a tournament, and then you wrestle the finals later. We need to prepare for all scenarios and the guy that comes out on top at this point in the year. This is not the final decision. It just provides a starting depth chart. It will show who's our starters at this moment, and how we can grow throughout the year." – Coach Ruschell
