RECAP: Wrestlers Sweep Opening Duals

Landon Jones and the Chattanooga Mocs swept through a multi-divisional quad meet on opening day for the 2025-26 season in Maclellan Gym.

The Chattanooga Mocs wrestling team cruised to a 3-0 start in the Chattanooga Quad Sunday in Maclellan Gym. The Mocs averaged 4.89 points per dual win in a dominant performance.
 
First Take
"I think we saw the areas that we've been working on have success. Got a lot of rides, turns and pins...things we've been working on all summer and pre-season. We're going to need those bonus points come March. Our guys were aggressive right off the rip with a lot of guys shooting really early in matches." – Coach Kyle Ruschell

The Breakdown
  • The Mocs got off to an impressive start with a 37-4 win over NAIA fifth-ranked Campbellsville. Ty Tice got it started with a first period tech fall at 2:20. Ethan Vergara had the exclamation point with a third period fall at 285.
  • Chattanooga won nine of the 10 matches with 10 bonus points.
  • Clinching bout was Kamdyn Munro's 13-5 major over NAIA 2nd-ranked Shad Slone at 174. Slone is rated as the 7th-best NAIA pound-for-pound wrestler.
  • The Mocs missed a perfect match by five points in round two. They topped Huntingdon 55-0 with falls at 133, 174, 184, 197 & 285 and techs at 125, 141, 149, 157 & 165.
  • Tavian Camper clinched the win at 165 with his tech at 5:21. His match and Kendrick Curtis' pin at 197 are the only matches that made it to the third period.
  • It was another dominant performance in a 45-4 final over King. The match win was clinched at 165 again, this time by forfeit. It came after a dominant pin (Hunter Mason), tech fall (Billy Meiszner) and pin (Cavarius Liddie).
  • 28-2 match record today with 53 bonus points in a cumulative 137-8 day.
  • 3-0 day for Ty Tice (125), Ethan Lipsey (133), Liddie (157), Munro (174), Jones (184) & Vergara (285).
  • Munro got two falls which are No. 14 & 15 of his career.
  • Tice was on the mat for 5:46 today with three tech falls. All nine of his career dual wins include bonus points (16 total). His average is 4.8 points per dual win.
  • 1st career dual wins for Camper, Curtis & Otero.
  • It was a multi-divisional quad meet with one from every division: Chattanooga (NCAA DI), King (DII), Huntingdon (DIII) & Campbellsville (NAIA).
