Three Mocs Qualify for Saturday Finals; Haney Named to All-Freshman Team at SoCon

LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Chattanooga Mocs advanced three to the Saturday finals and Norah Haney was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team after Day One of the Indoor Track and Field Championships at the VMI Corps Physical Training Facility.

"Day One is in the books at SoCon," assistant coach Patrick Gildea said. "Lots of hard fought battles on the oval in Lexington. Our 3,000 meter women faired well with Maddie Wheatcroft grabbing a sixth place finish and the points that come with that.

"Stella [Henry] soard in the long jump and added five more points to the Mocs tally. The DMR finished out the days scoring with a group that included Taylor Crawford, Sarah Unterholzner, Kennedy Reynolds and Lexi Foley."

Haney finished 11th overall in the Pentathlon with 2,265 points and earned a spot on the league's All-Freshman Team.

Henry set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 5.59 meters (18' 4.25") finishing just out of all-conference contention in fourth place and bringing in five points for the Mocs.

The DMR team finished sixth and added three points. Crawford got the race started with the 1200 meter distance. Unterholner took the baton for the 400 meters. Reynolds ran the 800 meter third leg and Foley anchored the Mocs in the 1600 meter run.

Wheatcroft placed sixth in the 3000 meter final with a time of 10:14.49 and earned two points.

Ryleigh Simmons qualified for the 60 meter dash with a personal best time of 7.77 seconds, just 0.05 off the program record set in 2004 by Latavia Shores. The final is set to start at 1:06 p.m. Saturday. She also set a PR in the 200 meter with a time of 25.84.

In the Mile Run, Maddie Wheatcroft and Kennedy Reynolds qualified for the Saturday final. Wheatcroft finished fourth in her heat and ran in a time of 5:13.91. Reynolds placed sixth in the same heat at 5:45.09. The Mile final will run at 12:32 p.m.

"Today's Mocs Baton Award was handed off to Stella Henry for her efforts," Gildea said.

The Mocs finished the day with 11 team points. Saturday gets started just after noon with the 5000 meter run. The Mocs will compete in the 60 meter and Mile finals and conclude the meet with the 4x400 meter relay.
