Scouting Chattanooga
Caia Elisaldez and
Gianna Corbitt rank among the best players in the SoCon in multiple statistics. Scoring wise, Elisaldez averages a team-high 15.2 ppg (T1st in SoCon) while Corbitt is right behind her at 14.3 ppg (T4th in SoCon). Most recently, on Chattanooga's road trip to South Carolina, Corbitt went for 30 points against Furman then in the Wofford game, Elisaldez scored 24 points. Elisaldez dishes out 5.3 apg (1
st in SoCon) while Corbitt grabs 8 rpg (T2nd in SoCon).
Coming off the bench,
Frode Flos van der Schans has been as efficient as you can be these last two games. In this stretch, van der Schans is 87.5% (7-8) from the field. This includes a career-high 13 point performance in the Wofford game where she was a perfect 100% from the field: (4-4) FG, (2-2) 3FG, (2-2) FT. She was the first Mocs player since
Brooke Anya on 1/16/25 against Samford to hold a 100% field-goal percentage in a game.
The Mocs, who have prided themselves on being a strong defensive and rebounding team are looking to bounce back from a performance that was not up to their standard against Wofford. Chattanooga gave up the most points it has in a SoCon game this year at 67 and was outrebounded 35-22. UTC ranks the best in the SoCon in conference games in points allowed per game at 48.8 and in rebounds per game at 39.4
Scouting ETSU
ETSU had won five consecutive SoCon games up until Tuesday when it was defeated by Mercer on its home court 50-45. During its win streak, ETSU took down both Wofford and Furman on the road in back-to-back games. Both games were tight as the Buccaneers won the two games by a combined seven points. In total, ETSU is 5-4 in road games this year, which is the second-best away record in the league behind UTC.
ETSU's top scorer this season is Anala Nelson, a transfer guard from Austin Peay, who is scoring 10.7 ppg. She has scored in double figures in five SoCon games, including a 22-point display against Furman. In the frontcourt, Meghan Downing leads the Bucs with 8 ppg and 8 rpg (T2
nd in SoCon). She is also a lethal shot blocker, averaging a league best 2.2 bpg, which ranks 20
th in the country.
Much like the Mocs, the Bucs' identity is in their defense, allowing just 54.4 ppg in SoCon play (2
nd in SoCon). They have held their opponent under 60 points in seven out of nine conference games. On the other hand, ETSU has had one of the least efficient offenses in the league, as it has shot the ball at a rate of 36% (7
th in SoCon) and 25% from 3FG (8
th in SoCon) in conference play.
