Women's Basketball Travels to Wofford in Saturday Showdown

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga goes for its 13th consecutive win on Saturday at Wofford, and is looking to complete the regular season sweep of the Terriers. Tip-off from Spartanburg is scheduled for 1 p.m.

In this season's conference opener, UTC took down Wofford 61-42 inside McKenzie Arena. With the Mocs up five points going into the fourth quarter, they outscored the Terriers 22-8 to secure the double-digit win. Kalifa Ford led the Mocs with 20 points and eight rebounds while Gianna Corbitt totaled a career-high 16 rebounds in the win.

Series History
In a series that dates back to 1996, Chattanooga is 57-9 all-time against Wofford... The Mocs are 25-5 on the road at the Terriers... UTC has won five of the last six meetings between the two... Saturday will be the 67th all-time meeting... Mocs won 43 in a row in the series from 12/5/99 to 1/17/19.

Chattanooga is riding a 12-game winning streak that started on Dec. 7 against Bellarmine and has taken it through eight games of the SoCon schedule. Eight of the 12 wins have been by double digits. It's UTC's most consecutive wins since 2023-24 when it won 12 in a row.

Step One of the Road Trip Checked Off
In a battle of the first and second place teams in the SoCon, Chattanooga took down Furman on the road on Friday 62-54. Chattanooga outscored the Paladins 14-3 in the first quarter and did not look back. Three points is the fewest any team has scored in a quarter this year against the Mocs. Gianna Corbitt (30 pts, 11 rebs) and Caia Elisaldez (13 pts, 11 asts) each had double-doubles in the win. It's the first time in five years that UTC has had two players record a double-double in a game.

Where Things Stand in SoCon
The Mocs are in first place in the SoCon standings with an 8-0 record. UTC holds a two-game lead over second-place Furman who is 6-2, with both of its losses coming to the Mocs. Wofford holds third place in the standings with a 5-3 record.

Where Things Stand Nationally
The Mocs are ranked No. 180 in the NCAA Division I NET Rankings. In the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, the Mocs are receiving votes, effectively sitting at No. 37. Chattanooga currently ranks tied ninth for the longest active win streak in the country at 12 games. It's the sixth longest among mid-major schools.

Scouting Chattanooga
Gianna Corbitt and Caia Elisaldez proved their worth again on Friday with their double-double performances at Furman, leading Chattanooga to its 12th consecutive win. Elisaldez at 14.8 ppg, and Corbitt at 14.7 ppg, rank second and third in the conference in scoring. They also impact the game in other ways, with Elisaldez leading the league in assists per game at 5.5 apg, while Corbitt is second in the SoCon in rebounding at 8.3 rpg.

Izzy McPherson has been lights out shooting triples in her last three games. The redshirt-freshman is 66.7% (12-16) shooting the deep ball in this run. Kalifa Ford returned from a four-game injury stint against Furman. She has been a key player this year for the Mocs, averaging 9.7 ppg and 4.4 rpg.

Since the start of SoCon play, Chattanooga's defense has taken a stride forward, allowing just 46.5 ppg (1st in SoCon). Also in conference games, Chattanooga leads the league in rebounding with 41.6 rpg. It has outrebounded its opponent in 13 consecutive games. Lastly, for the whole season, the Mocs have the top field goal percentage at 42.2%, and 3-point percentage at 33.4% in the conference.

Scouting Wofford
Wofford comes into the game on Saturday on a two-game losing skid, with losses at home against Furman (64-65) and ETSU (57-61). Prior to these two games, the Terriers had won five games in a row, all against SoCon opposition. In total, Wofford is 6-4 on its home court this year.

In the backcourt, Wofford is led by freshman Gabby Mundy, who averages 14.5 ppg (T4th in SoCon), 5.6 rpg, and 4 apg (3rd in SoCon). She has scored 20 or more points in three games this year, including a 28-point display in Wofford's last win against Mercer. Leading the frontcourt is Queen Ikihiuwu with 14.5 ppg (T4th in SoCon) and 7.3 rpg (4th in SoCon). She has five double-doubles on the year.

Offensively, Wofford is the second-highest scoring team in the SoCon at 67.9 ppg. Also, for the season, Wofford is averaging 40.5 rpg (2nd in SoCon). That being said though, Wofford has been outrebounded in its last three games, including by 15 against ETSU.
