Tony Brown

Tony Brown spent two seasons (2015-16) as a defensive line assistant on Russ Huesman's staff.  A Chattanooga native, Brown spent eight years as a defensive tackle in the NFL and was a four-year starter with the Tennessee Titans from 2007-10.

In his first year with the Mocs, Brown helped coach a defensive line that featured All-American Keionta Davis and All-Southern Conference pick Josh Freeman.  Isaiah Mack was also honored by the league in 2015, earning SoCon All-Freshman honors.

Davis was the SoCon Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, again leading the SoCon with 10.5 sacks.  He finished ninth in the Buck Buchanan Award voting, the highest in school history, and repeated as a consensus All-American.  Vantrel McMillan also made the All-SoCon first team, while the Mocs led the league with 38 sacks.

Davis set the Mocs' single-season record with 13.5 sacks in 2015, while Freeman made the All-SoCon second team.  Mack was fifth on the team with 54 tackles and also had 3.5 sacks.

Brown played for the Titans, Panthers, Dolphins and 49ers during his NFL career.  He was twice a Pro Bowl alternate in 2008 and 2009.  He also played one season in NFL Europe where he was the Defensive Player of the Year for the Amsterdam Admirals.

Since his professional playing days, he has coached at Chattanooga’s East Hamilton High School and participated in the NFL’s Retired Players Internship coaching program.  In 2014, he worked as a defensive line intern with the St. Louis Rams.

An all-conference standout at the University of Memphis, Brown graduated with a degree in Sociology in 2002.  He was a second-team All-Conference USA selection for the Tigers in 2002.  He graduated from Chattanooga’s City High School in 1998 after earning all-state honors as a linebacker and tight end.

Brown and his wife, Lachandra, have three sons, Tyre, Troy and Tory.
