4) Chatman Within Reach of Assist Record
Sophomore point guard
Rodney Chatman recorded his 100th assist with his second of the day Saturday against VMI. At 104 through 22 games, it's not hard to let the eye wander to the future of this talented Georgia native.
Keegan Bell '12 set the school's sophomore record with 159 in 2009-10. With nine games left in the SoCon slate along with at least one date in the conference tournament, Chatman needs to post 5.5 assists per contest to get to 159. He's currently dishing out 5.8 per league game so we'll keep our eye on Chatman the rest of the way.
5) Three Notes to Notice
- Makinde London has scored 20 or more points seven times this season. Last Moc to tally eight or more? Casey Jones '16 with eight in 2014-15. He is one of four Mocs to top 20 this season joined by Nat Dixon (4), Rodney Chatman (2) and Makale Foreman (1). Three of London's have come in his six SoCon appearances.
- All four 20-point nights for Dixon have come in conference play: 20-ETSU, 21-Furman, 20-at The Citadel and 21-Samford. He's reached double figures in 20 of the 22 including 12 straight. He's tallied 17.0 points per game over that stretch raising his season average from 11.1 to a team-best 14.3 per contest.
- 30 of the 34 points in the paint Saturday night came from Joshua Phillips and James Lewis, Jr. They combined to shoot 13 of 14 (92.9%) and four-for-four (100%) at the free throw line.
