CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs move on to the second of three straight in the Roundhouse Saturday afternoon. The squad welcomes Tennessee Tech with a 2 p.m., tipoff looking for the first back-to-back wins of the campaign.

It's a battle of two teams looking to find their stride. The Mocs are 3-5 with wins over Charlotte, Cumberland and Hiwassee, while the Golden Eagles enter at 1-6 topping ULM last week before a close defeat to Winthrop at home Wednesday.

Tuesday night's win over the Tigers featured five double-figure scorers for the first time in 2018-19. Jerry Johnson, Jr., led the way with 20, while Donovann Toatley and David Jean-Baptiste turned in 19 apiece. Justin Brown and Kevin Easley added 14 and 11, respectively.

Johnson, Toatley and Jean-Baptiste earned season highs with a career best for Jean-Baptiste. It was the first time since March 5, 2004 against Georgia Southern in the Southern Conference semifinals that a Mocs trio tallied 19 or more points each in a game that ended in regulation. That group all topped 20 led by Chris Brown's 24 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Champion and Ray Trowell both had 20.

Tickets are available at the link above or by calling (423) 266-MOCS (6627). The contest airs on ESPN+ as well locally on the radio at 96.1 FM.

NOTABLE
  • 60th meeting all-time between the Mocs and Golden Eagles. Third-longest non-conference series in school history behind Tennessee Wesleyan (65) and Samford (64 before joining the SoCon in 2008-09). More on page 4 of the notes package linked above.
  • Season-best 13 steals in the win Tuesday. Four Mocs had multiple thefts (5-Jerry Johnson, Jr., 2-Kevin Easley/Thomas Smallwood/Jonathan Scott). Johnson matched his career high with five steals Tuesday night. The second was the 50th in two-plus years of collegiate experience.
  • Freshman Kevin Easley leads the squad in scoring (15.3 ppg). If he finishes atop the list, he'll be the first freshman in school history to do it. Last newcomer to pace the Mocs in scoring? Georgetown transfer Omar Wattad '12 in 2010-11 at 14.3 ppg. Top four scorers currently are newcomers: Easley, Donovann Toatley (10.9), Jerry Johnson, Jr. (10.5) and Thomas Smallwood (9.0).
