The COUNTDOWN is on to the 2019 Chattanooga women's soccer season. A different player will be featured each day along with a fact about the soccer program. The Mocs host Austin Peay on Friday, August 23 to start the season.
Freshman Mackenzie Smith played high school ball at Hardin Valley Academy where she was an All-State selection her senior year, a four-time All-Region player and named All-District four times. Julia was the District 4-AAA Player of the Year following her senior campaign and selected to the Senior All-Star Game. She was also a 2018 PrepXtra First Team member.

She helped her club team, the FC Alliance, to the 2016 State title. She was named ECNL Ohio Valley All-Conference in 2017-18, named a ECNL FC Alliance Player to Watch in 2017-18 and 2018-19 and was a 2018 ECNL Player Development Program Southeast Conference selection.

"I chose UTC because I fell in love with it the minute I got here. I love the city because it's so different from my hometown, but it also has a lot of outdoors things to do that remind me of home. It felt like a piece of home with something new."

Chattanooga returns four midfielders this season including SoCon All-Freshman selection
Hollie Massey. She is joined by senior
Bailey Gale and sophomores
Adryan Darnell and
Samantha Shaw as well as transfer
Osa Iyare and freshmen
Grace Klippenstein,
Julia Perrusquia,
Cameron Giles and
Mackenzie Smith.

Gale was third on the team last season with three goals and a pair of assists. She had the game winner against former Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern. Massey played center midfield and had 34 shots. She scored her first collegiate goal against Austin Peay and recorded assists at Troy and against Western Carolina. Shaw saw action in 17 games with one start and assisted on the game winner against Alabama A&M. Darnell played in 10 matches in her rookie campaign.
