ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball staff is now complete. Coach
Lamont Paris had two assistants leave after the 2018-19 campaign and completed the 2019-20 edition with the promotion of three from within the program.
Assistant Coach
Tanner Bronson was joined on the coaching staff by former assistant
Eddie Shannon and
David McKinley who was elevated from the Director of Basketball Operations position. Those stories are available
here for Shannon and
here for McKinley.
Video Coordinator
Roman DiPasquale earned a new title of Assistant to the Head Coach.
Colby Arendale shifted from graduate manager to McKinley's former role, while student manager from last year
Calvin Williams was added in the graduate manager position.
Paris shared the two characteristics that weighed heavily in the decisions.
"I value loyalty and those guys have done a great job for us," he explained. "We moved guys up on staff…hard-working guys who know the culture we are establishing."
He added that while promoting from within isn't always viable, it certainly is something that goes into putting together a staff beginning at the graduate manager level like Arendale or in the case of McKinley joining his inaugural staff.
"It's a personal preference, but for me I always prefer to do that whenever possible," he shared. "Just from the familiarity and continuity standpoint. Hopefully you hired the right people in all your positions.
"If you have, promoting them is the way I like to go, but it has to be a viable option."
DiPasquale spent the last two seasons in the video coordinator role. His expertise and attention-to-detail makes this step a natural. DiPasquale's career arc includes work in the NBA (Philadelphia and Portland) along with a stop at Stanford. He began the journey as a student manager at Wisconsin (2007-11).
Arendale is a Chattanooga grad serving as a manager during Paris' first campaign. He took a step forward to graduate manager last year and was key aide to McKinley getting a small taste of what his current job entailed. The Chattanooga native served as a non-faculty assistant at Boyd-Buchanan High School during his undergrad years at UTC.
Williams takes advantage of the shuffle to join the staff while working on his Master's in Teacher Leadership. He was a Dean's List student at UTC graduating this past May with a degree in Sport Administration.
