2) Details
The Mocs and Cats both are playing for something. The home team can complete a 6-win season and .500 (4-4) record in conference play with a win. The good guys calling from the Scenic City have an 8-victory ledger in mind and a hopeful spot in the FCS Playoffs on the line. The likes of OL
McClendon Curtis, DT
Devonnsha Maxwell and QB
Cole Copeland were part of the 2017 recruiting class that followed the last trip to the playoffs in 2016. Fellow seniors LB Ty Boeck, P Gabe Boring and DB CaMiron Smith came in the following year and between the six played the last five seasons with the goal of returning the program to where it was when they arrived after the Russ Huesman Era.
Â
3) History
It's the 48th meeting between Chattanooga and Western Carolina. Forty-five of the 48 played within the confines of the Southern Conference. The Mocs lead the series 30-17 overall, 28-16 in conference matchups.

4) Record Watch – Special 3 Notes to Know before the 3 you need to know…
Three Mocs are in range of some pretty special numbers for their careers, seasons or both.
- Junior RB Ailym Ford has 1,097 rushing yards in his nine games this season. He needs 155 yards to break Derrick Craine's season record of 1,251 yards in 2015.
- Senior DT Devonnsha Maxwell has 36.5 career sacks. He needs 0.5 to tie and 1.0 to break the school and Southern Conference record of 37.0 by Davis Tull '14.
- Junior edge Jay Person has 17.5 tackles for loss in 2022. That's 1.5 shy of the school record of 19.0 set first by Tull in 2012 and matched in 2016 by Dale Warren.
Â
5) 3 Notes to Know – WR Version
- Freshman WR Sam Phillips (35-555) is one reception shy of the school's freshman record for catches. The duo of Darryl Streeter (1984) and Jeremy Grier (2001) hold the mark of 36. Larry Stokes has a 171-yard advantage in the receiving yards by freshman category but after last week's 11-catch, 163-yard performance from Phillips, don't count him out.
- Phillips (555) and Jamoi Mayes (511) are the first 500-yard wideout pair for the Mocs since 2018: Bryce Nunnelly (1,237) and Wil Young (535). Javin Whatley (404) is 96 yards away from 500. That would be the first trio to complete 500 yards since 2004: Alonzo Nix (819), current assistant coach Tyrus Ward (660) & Emanuel Hassell (647).
- The last seven drives Tyron Arnett has at least one catch on has resulted in 41 points - 5 TD & 2 FG.
