Mocs Soccer Shuts Down Wofford in Home Finale

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga soccer team closed out the home portion of the regular season with a second straight shutout, beating Wofford 2-0 Thursday evening at Finley Stadium.
 
The Mocs improve to 10-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Southern Conference action. The Terriers fall to 4-10-2 on the year and 2-5 against the league.
 
Chattanooga got on the board early. Clarissa Salinas took the ball into the right corner. She shook her defender and found Caroline Richvalsky alone about 16 yards out from the goal. She lofted the ball over a charging defender and into the top right of the net for the game winner.
 
The next goal came just over a minute later. Wofford was called for a handball in the box and Birna Johannsdottir lined up for the penalty kick. She sent a quick shot low into the left side of the goal to make it a 2-0 game.
 
The Mocs outshot Wofford 19-8 and had a 10-2 shots on goal advantage. The Chattanooga defense held off the Terriers and Caroline Richvalsky made two saves. Rylee Godbold pulled in eight saves for Wofford.
 
Mackenzie Smith had a team-high six shots with four on goal and Richvalsky tallied four. Richvalsky has a team-best seven goals and is tied with Johannsdottir with 17 points on the year.
 
Chattanooga will close out the year on the road. The Mocs travel to UNC Greensboro for a matchup on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The finale will be Sunday, October 22 at Samford.
