Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Quinn Johnson scored twice and the Chattanooga Mocs overcame an early deficit to defeat ETSU 3-1 Thursday afternoon at Max Finley Stadium, moving into sole possession of third place in the Southern Conference standings ahead of the Buccaneers.

ETSU struck first in the ninth minute when Reagan Fitzgerald converted a goal off an assist from Natalie Capannelli to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The Mocs answered midway through the opening half as Johnson found the back of the net in the 22nd minute on a feed from Paige Thomas, knotting the score at 1-1. Chattanooga continued to pressure the ETSU defense throughout the match, finishing with a 14-6 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in shots on goal.

Johnson delivered the match-winner in the 64th minute, taking an assist from Savannah Dunahay just outside the box and scoring her second goal of the afternoon to put Chattanooga in front for good.

The Mocs added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when an ETSU own goal extended the lead to 3-1. Thomas took the ball down the left side and sent in a shot for Johnson. However, the Buc defender stepped in front and hit the ball into the right side of the net.

Chattanooga controlled much of the second half, recording seven shots and five corner kicks after intermission. Addie Taylor made one save in goal for the Mocs, while ETSU goalkeeper Addison Yelton stopped seven shots despite the loss.

With the victory, Chattanooga improved to 9-3-5 overall and 5-2-2 in Southern Conference play, leapfrogging ETSU (8-6-2, 5-3-1 SoCon) into third place in the league standings heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

Chattanooga closes the regular season Sunday afternoon at Mercer. The game kicks off at 2:00 p.m.
