Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs scored four first-half goals and cruised to a 5-0 Southern Conference women's soccer victory over Western Carolina Sunday afternoon at Max Finley Stadium. The win moved Chattanooga to 7-1-4 overall and 3-0-1 in league play and extended its unbeaten streak to a program record nine games.

Chattanooga dominated from the opening whistle, outshooting Western Carolina 18-2 and holding the Catamounts to just one shot on goal. The Mocs also earned six corner kicks and posted their fifth shutout of the season and third straight.

Paige Thomas led the offensive eruption with her first career hat trick, scoring three goals in a span of less than 22 minutes during the opening half. Thomas opened the scoring in the fourth minute, finishing a pass from Quinn Johnson at the 3:58 mark. She added an unassisted goal in the ninth minute before Chattanooga struck again less than four minutes later when Emily Betterton found the back of the net off another Johnson assist for a 3-0 lead.

Thomas completed the hat trick in the 26th minute, pushing the Mocs' advantage to 4-0 before halftime.

The Catamounts faced an additional challenge when Alexandra Grammenopoulos was issued a red card in the 19th minute, bringing down Thomas just outside the box as she raced toward the goal. That forced Western Carolina to play down a player for the remainder of the match.

Chattanooga continued to control possession throughout the second half and capped the scoring in the 77th minute. Ella Attaway connected on a pass from Betha Pucek and Lilly Filler for her first goal of the season, extending the lead to the final 5-0 margin.

In goal, Addie Taylor made one save in the opening half before McKenzie Allen handled the second 45 minutes as Chattanooga combined for the clean sheet. Western Carolina goalkeepers Amara Yetka and Elizabeth Rupert combined for five saves.

The Mocs extended their unbeaten streak to nine games that included six wins and three ties.

Chattanooga hits the road to take on Wofford Friday evening in Spartanburg, S.C.
