10/9/2026 9:55:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Chattanooga women's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to 10 matches Friday night, scoring a pair of second-half goals in a 2-1 Southern Conference victory over Wofford at Snyder Field. The Mocs improved to 8-1-4 overall and 4-0-1 in league play with the win and move into first place alone in the SoCon standings.
Â
"Great to get three points on the road," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "Wofford was organized and made things difficult for us. Pleased we found two second-half goals and saw the game out."
Â
After a scoreless first half in which Chattanooga controlled the attack and outshot the Terriers 5-2, the Mocs broke through early in the second period. Quinn Johnson opened the scoring in the 55th minute, finishing a setup from EG Dillard and Emma Reeves for her seventh goal of the season. Dillard's pass into the box from the left side was directed to the top of the box by Reeves. Johnson picked up the pass just outside the top middle of the 18-yard box for the score at the 54:20 mark of the game.
Â
Just 20 seconds later, Chattanooga doubled its advantage when Emily Betterton found the back of the net off an assist from Elise Nystrom. The quick two-goal burst gave the Mocs a 2-0 lead and proved to be the difference.
Â
Nystrom picked up the ball just past midfield and sent a long pass down the right side of the field to Betterton. She gave the ball a couple of touches before firing off a long shot from outside the box on the right and hitting the far post for the game winner.
Â
Wofford cut the deficit in the 87th minute, but Chattanooga's defense held firm over the closing minutes to secure the victory.
Â
Goalkeeper Addie Taylor earned the win for the Mocs, making three saves, all in the second half. Chattanooga outshot Wofford 13-9 and held a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal while also generating eight corner kicks.
Â
The Mocs nearly broke the scoreless tie in the first half when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 19th minute, but Wofford's keeper made the save and finished the night with eight stops.
Â
With the win, the Mocs move ahead of ETSU and broke out of the four-way tie at second with Furman, Samford and UNC Greensboro.
Â
Chattanooga returns home on Thursday, October 16 to host Samford at Finley Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
