COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Chattanooga's
Birna Johannsdottir scored the lone goal of the match off a corner kick to tally a 1-0 win for the Mocs Sunday night at Tennessee Tech in women's soccer action. Chattanooga improves to 1-1 on the year and the Golden Eagles fall to 0-1-1.
Clarissa Salinas fired off the Mocs eighth shot of the second half but it was tipped by the Golden Eagles keeper, going over the endline. Johannsdottir lined up the corner kick on the left side. Her shot went over the Tennessee Tech keeper and hit off the far post. It deflected into the net for the only goal of the match.
After only recording three shots, one on goal, in the first half, Chattanooga upped its offensive attack in the latter frame and outshot the Golden Eagles 11-7 in the period with a 6-2 shots on goal advantage. UTC outshot Tennessee Tech 14-11 for the game.
In the final 20 minutes, Tech had five of its 11 shots with one on goal and one blocked as the Mocs defense preserved the seventh career shutout for Mocs keeper
Caroline Ekern. She recorded three saves in the match compared to seven for TTU's keeper Maggie Conrad.
Johannsdottir and
Zoey Mize led the Mocs with four shots apiece, combining for three on goal.
Caroline Richvalsky fired off three shots with two on goal.
Clarissa Salinas,
Kelly Tuerff and
Mary Beth Skelton each tallied a shot in the match.
