CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga women's basketball team is set to close out its 13-game non-conference slate this Saturday, December 21 when the Mocs welcome Salem University to the Roundhouse for UTC's non-conference finale.
In what will be the team's final game of the 2024 calendar year, Saturday's game pits the Mocs (4-8) against the Division II Tigers (1-11) in what will hopefully be a great-right game for Chattanooga prior to Southern Conference action getting underway at the turn of the New Year.
Tipoff against Salem is set for 2 p.m. ET at McKenzie Arena. Fans can also tune into ESPN+ to stream the game, or follow along over the radio via WFLI 104.3 or The Varsity app.
As an additional reminder to fans, tickets for Saturday's game will be within season ticket holders' accounts separately from their All-In-1 season ticket pass. More info on how to access your standalone ticket for Saturday's game can be found below.

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (4-8, 0-0 SoCon)
The Mocs enter their non-conference finale riding a five-game losing streak, but UTC has had plenty to still hang its hat on as SoCon play looms. The Mocs most recently put together a solid outing against then-No. 24 ranked Nebraska in Lincoln, hanging within single digits with the Huskers up until the second half of the game. Chattanooga's defense has been its strong suit, with the Mocs only allowing an average of 58.7 points/game to their opponents while holding their opposition to a .269 three-point percentage as well. Some standouts in the UTC lineup include Caia Elisaldez, who is currently leading the team in scoring (10.1 points/game) and assists (4.2 assists/game), as well as Karsen Murphy, who is averaging 9.6 points/game for the Mocs. True freshman Gianna Corbitt has also come into her own these past couple games, with Corbitt leading all SoCon freshmen in points/game (9.2), steals/game (1.7) and blocks/game (0.8) while ranking second amongst SoCon freshmen in rebounds/game (6.0) this season.
ABOUT SALEM (1-11)
The Tigers have had a rough go of it to kick off their 2024-25 season, as Salem enters their contest with the Mocs holding a 1-11 record on the year. After starting the season 0-9, the Tigers snapped their nine-game losing streak by earning their first and only win of the year on December 11, defeating Davis & Elkins College, 74-57. Aside from that game, the Tigers have struggled to find consistent success on the court, so Salem will look to turn the tide of their season this Saturday in the Scenic City. The Tigers are led in scoring by Carine Pinkney, who is averaging 16.9 points/game this season on a .412 shooting clip. Liliani Krause is also a double-digit scorer for Salem, with Krause averaging 13.2 per game.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
This will be the first meeting between Chattanooga and Salem University in women's basketball. It marks the third time this season that the Mocs will be taking on a first-time opponent, as the other two first-time foes for the Mocs this year included Penn and Bellarmine.
TOP NOTES
• This marks the first-ever meeting between Chattanooga and Salem in women's basketball.
• Gianna Corbitt currently leads all SoCon freshmen in scoring (9.2 points/game), steals (1.7 steals/ game) and blocks (0.8 blocks/game) while ranking second amongst SoCon freshmen in rebounding (9.2 rebounds/game) this season.
• With a 4.2 assists/game average and having already recorded a team-leading 46 assists this year, Caia Elisaldez is on pace to finish the 2024-25 regular season with 108 total assists. If Elisaldez does in fact reach that total, she would become the first Moc to finish with 100+ assists in a season since Alicia Payne finished with 123 assists during the 2015-16 season.
• Sigrun Olafsdottir is currently averaging 37.97 minutes/game this season. Not only does this lead the SoCon, but it ranks as the second-highest minutes/game average in the entire NCAA.
• Olafsdottir is closing in on history as she needs to appear in four more games to tie the program record for most career games played. She is at 132 and the record is 136, held by Abbey Cornelius (2018-23).
