Mocs Fall to Alabama in Home Opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Alabama in the Mocs home opener Sunday evening at Finley Stadium. UTC falls to 0-3-1 overall and the Tide improves to 3-1 on the year.

"The girls showed toughness and competed hard tonight," Mocs head coach Gavin McKinney said. "While we were punished for our mistakes, there are positives to take away. On we go with our difficult schedule – we'll keep working to improve and the results will follow."

Chattanooga fired off eight shots with two on goal. Caroline Richvalsky challenged the Tide defense and fired off a shot the hit off the crossbar and nearly made it into the goal. However, it bounced out and Sophia Mize's header that followed was blocked.

Caroline Ekern made six stops, several up close and a diving stop late in the second half.

Alabama scored its first goal in the first minute off the foot of Gianna Paul inside the box. The Tide got a second just before the half to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Paul scored her second of the game in the 50th minute and Kiley Kukan scored Alabama's fourth goal in the 89th minute.

The Mocs remain home to host #19 Xavier Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Finley Stadium. Admission is free.
