Soccer Battles Furman to 1-1 Draw

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team played Furman to a 1-1 draw Thursday evening at Finley Stadium in a tightly contested Southern Conference matchup.

Freshman Quinn Johnson got the Mocs off to a fast start, scoring in the second minute off an assist from Zoey Mize with her third goal of the season for an early 1-0 lead.

Despite Chattanooga's offensive pressure, which included 24 total shots and eight on goal, Furman's keeper recorded seven saves to keep the Paladins in the match. Furman found the equalizer in the 74th minute when Maddie Massie netted her sixth goal of the season, assisted by Ellie Herrmann.

The Mocs controlled much of the possession and outshot Furman 14-3 in the second half, but couldn't find the go-ahead goal. Caroline Ekern made one save in goal for Chattanooga, while Johnson fired off six shots and Caroline Richvalsky had five with two on goal.

With the result, Chattanooga moves to 8-4-4 overall and 2-2-3 in SoCon play. Furman now stands at 8-2-5 overall and 2-1-4 in the conference.

Chattanooga hosts VMI Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the final home match of the regular season. Prior to the match the Mocs will honor its seven seniors.
