Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to Five Matches

FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Chattanooga Mocs battled back from an early deficit and controlled much of the action the rest of the way in a 1-1 draw at North Alabama Thursday night at Cox Creek Sports Complex. The Mocs moved to 4-1-3 on the season.
North Alabama struck quickly, finding the back of the net just 33 seconds into the match.
Chattanooga responded less than 12 minutes later. Senior forward Quinn Johnson scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 13th minute, lofting a free kick over the defense and out of reach of the Lions keeper.
Chattanooga nearly took the lead moments later when Carmya Mastrangelo hit the woodwork in the 14th minute.
The Mocs generated the majority of the attacking chances throughout the evening, finishing with a 15-8 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Chattanooga also earned seven corner kicks compared to three for UNA.
Chattanooga continued to press after the break, recording 11 second-half shots and forcing North Alabama goalkeeper Emily Dorfman into five of her six saves during the final 45 minutes.
Paige Thomas provided a spark off the bench for the Mocs, leading all players with six shots, including four efforts on frame. Emily Betterton, Molly Johnson and Quinn Johnson each added a shot on goal.
In goal, Addie Taylor tallied all 90 minutes for Chattanooga and made two saves. Both of her stops came in the second half as the Mocs back line limited North Alabama to three shots on target.
The match remained deadlocked through a physical second half that featured 18 combined fouls. Chattanooga's defense held the Lions scoreless for the final 89:27 after conceding the early goal, while the offense continued to pressure until the final whistle.
The Mocs remain on the road and open Southern Conference play next Thursday at league-newcomer Tennessee Tech.
