The Breakdown
- It's the second consecutive tournament with the Mocs showing success and perseverance to reach placing spots through the wrestlebacks. There were seven placers at the Black Knight Invite while there are seven again this weekend who wrestled attached.
- There were two non-contested fifth-place matches for the Mocs. Bryce Luna reached it with two conso wins after a 1-1 start to the day. His fifth-place match was against teammate Ethan Uhorchuk but they did not contest it. Uhorchuk was unattached today.
- One weight up at 141, Hunter Mason and Will Anderson both won opening bouts before quarterfinal losses. Then the duo worked their way to the fifth-place matchup with another no contest.
- Redshirt freshman Alexander Hutchcraft worked his way to the semifinals at 157 before landing in the third-place match. He earned a 4-1 win over Isaac Johns of Bellarmine. Hutchcraft got the winning takedown with 1:06 left in the third for a 4-0 lead. He rode Johns to the 19-second mark and then blocked any offensive effort the rest of the way.
- Redshirt freshman Cavarius Liddie made it to the fifth-place battle at 157 against Keegan Knapp of host Kent State. Liddie dominated from the outset with two first period takedowns. He ran away from there to a 16-4 major decision.
- Redshirt freshman Brody Murray followed Hutchcraft's example fighting his was into the semifinals before landing in a third-place meeting with Braxton Quaintance. Quaintance claimed the win with Murray finishing fourth.
- Redshirting junior Cody Chittum wrestled unattached. He cruised through the 165 bracket to get the win.
