ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (17-14, 9-5 SoCon)
The Mocs opened their 2025 WNIT by grinding out a hard-fought 53-49 win over Alabama A&M to secure UTC's first WNIT win since 2005 in front of the McKenzie Arena faithful. Chattanooga is a team that prides itself in its defense, and the proof of that is truly in the pudding as the Mocs enter their game against Troy ranked Top 20 in the nation in both scoring defense (16th – 55.7 points allowed/game) and three-point percentage defense (17th – .270). The Mocs also rank 34th in the country in field goal percentage defense, holding their opponents to a .372 shooting clip over the course of the 2024-25 season. The main player to watch for the Mocs is the young standout Gianna Corbitt, who helped will the Mocs to a victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday. Corbitt dropped a career-high 27 points in the win while also grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds. The double-double marked the youngster's sixth of the season and she now ranks seventh amongst all NCAA freshmen when it comes to double-doubles this year. Corbitt is currently averaging 11.1 points/game and 7.3 rebounds/game this season for the Mocs.
ABOUT TROY (20-13, 13-5 Sun Belt)
Troy saw a strong 2024-25 run come to a bitter end in the Sun Belt Tournament Semifinals, as the No. 3 seeded Trojans fell to No. 2 Arkansas State 81-66, putting an end to the squad's Sun Belt title hopes. A big and physical team, Troy is not a team to take lightly as their 49.5 rebounds/game currently leads the entire NCAA for the 2024-25 season. Their height has also given them a defensive edge, with Troy ranking 21st in the country in blocks/game (4.6). The Trojans can also score at will on a hot shooting night, as the team averages 78.5 points/game this year, ranking 19th in the nation in scoring offense in the process. Zay Dyer is the woman to watch for the Trojans. A First Team All-Sun Belt selection, Dyer has notched 15 double-doubles for Troy this season while averaging team-highs in scoring (13.4 points/game) and rebounding (10.3 rebounds/game). Shaulana Wagner is another dynamic weapon for the Trojans, as the senior has averaged 8.4 points/game, 6.5 assists/game and 5.9 rebounds/game for the Trojans this season. Her breakout game came back on Dec. 14 in a non-conference win over Memphis, in which Wagner earned the first-ever triple-double in program history, finishing with 12 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
You don't have to go back far to find the last time these two teams met, as earlier this season on Nov. 14, the Mocs hosted the Trojans in a non-conference battle in McKenzie Arena. Troy came away victorious in the matchup thanks in large part to a 21-3 scoring run by the Trojans early-on in the game. While UTC was able to chip away that Troy's large advantage, the scoring drought was too much for the Mocs to overcome as Troy came away victorious with a final score of 76-66. The all-time series between Chattanooga and Troy now stands at 4-3 in favor of the Trojans. The Mocs are 1-1 when playing the Trojans in Troy, however. The last three games have gone in favor of Troy with Chattanooga's most recent win against the Trojans coming in 2002.
