STARTING FIVE- UTC is looking for its first 16-3 start since opening the 1983-84 season.
- Chattanooga leads the SoCon in field goal (47.0%) and 3pt percentage (38.0%). ETSU is second in both categories at 46.4 and 37.6 percent, respectively.
- The Mocs are 13-0 when scoring 70 or more points. ETSU has limited seven of its 17 opponents to less than 70. Check out the indicators on page 9 of the notes package.
- The Bucs lead the SoCon at 4-0, a half-game ahead of UTC and Wofford at 4-1. Mercer is in fourth at 3-1. Complete SoCon standings are on page 8 of the notes package.
- Since Chattanooga entered the SoCon in 1977-78, three teams have dominated the league's landscape. The Mocs have 28 titles (10 regular season, eight division and 10 tournament) over those 38 campaigns. Davidson is second with 22 (2-12-8) with ETSU third with 13 (3-4-6). The Bucs joined the league in 1979-80, departed after the 2005 season and returned for 2014-15.

OPENING TIPS- This is the 78th meeting, 51st in regular season SoCon play. The Mocs lead the series 44-33, 23-8 in Chattanooga. More series notes on page 6 of the notes package.

- Last three 16-3 or better openings? 1983-84 (16-3), 1982-83 (26-3) and 1981-82 (27-3).
- Last 15-4 start? 1984-85 squad started 16-4 winning the SoCon regular season title and reaching the NIT Elite 8.

Chuck Ester is averaging 7.2 points, 5.5 boards, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per contest since taking over for
Casey Jones in the starting lineup (10 games).

Justin Tuoyo is averaging team-high numbers for points (13.0), rebounds (6.1) and blocks (2.9) in home contests.

Johnathan Burroughs-Cook is on a good scoring run over the last three games. He's averaging 12.3 ppg, 2.0 apg and 1.3 spg while shooting 57.9 percent (11-19) from the field, 42.9 percent (3-7) from 3pt range and 81.3 percent (13-16) at the free throw line over that span.

HEAD COACH MATT MCCALL- Head Coach
Matt McCall is 15-3 in his first season as a head coach. He comes to Chattanooga from Florida where he was an assistant to Billy Donovan over the last four years. He is 7-0 at home.
- First Mocs ball coach to start his tenure 15-3 or better. Next best with three losses? Ron Shumate started 12-3 in 1972-73 as did Jeff Lebo in 2002-03.
- McCall is a 2004 graduate of Florida. He spent 10 seasons with Billy Donovan working as a student manager (2003-06), director of basketball ops (2006-08) and assistant coach (2011-15). He spent three seasons as an assistant to Mike Jarvis at Florida Atlantic (2008-11) culminating with a school-best 21-11 mark in 2010-11.
- McCall's staff includes a former head coach,
Reggie Witherspoon (Buffalo, 1999-2013), fellow former FAU assistant
Peter Gash and
Jesse Bopp, a former prep school head coach that most recently served as director of basketball ops for Shaka Smart at VCU. Former Gator SEC Legend
Eddie Shannon is the director of basketball ops, while
Jacob Kurtz is video coordinator after completing his playing career in 2015 at UF.
Jordan Clark returns as graduate manager.

SCOUTING THE BUCSÂ - 11-6, 4-0 in the Southern Conference. Own league wins at Western Carolina (82-66), UNCG (86-83), VMI (88-51) and at Samford (81-77). The Bucs are 4-5 on the road, 2-0 in league play.
- Head Coach Steve Forbes is 11-6 in his first season at ETSU and as a four-year head coach. Forbes fashioned a 129-34 (.791) record in five JUCO (NW Florida & Barton Co.) seasons.
- ETSU returns just five players from last year's squad (3 starters) adding eight (2 freshmen) to the roster. Three of the newcomers came from high major programs: Peter Jurkin (Indiana), Ge'Lawn Guyn (Cincinnati) and Deuce Bello (Missouri).
- Guyn leads the Bucs in scoring at 16.9 per contest followed closely by T.J. Cromer (16.0). The duo shoots 41.1 and 40.2 percent, respectively, from 3pt range.
- Isaac Banks is the team leader on the boards (5.2).
