Moctoberfest is a month-long celebration of Chattanooga Mocs
men's basketball. It includes historical moments, social media interactions and
introduction to UTC's freshmen among the myriad of video tributes and stories.
Day 24 focuses on freshman wing Casey Jones. Jones is a
high-flier who brings great athleticism to the wing for the Mocs.
"Casey is very athletic...VERY athletic," noted head coach
John Shulman. "I am excited about what he is going to bring to the three for
us. He can score it, rebound it and plays with a high motor. He can impact both
ends of the floor."
Jones hails from New Orleans, La. He and Gee McGhee starred
for Quannas White and the Louisiana Dynasty in AAU before joining each other
again in Chattanooga.
He prepped for Marshall Jackson at L.W. Higgins High School
in Marrero, a suburb of New Orleans. Casey averaged 18.8 points and 8.4
rebounds per game as a senior after posting 22.0 points and 8.9 boards per
contest as a junior.
Jones was 2012 second team Louisiana Class 5A All-State and
Times-Picayune All-Metro. He earned New Orleans Prep Athlete of the Week on
Feb. 3. As a junior he recorded a triple-double against Chalmette with 41
points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks. He chose Chattanooga over Tulane and
Louisiana-Monroe among others.
The son of Wendy and Floyd Jones, he is majoring in Engineering
Management. He has seven siblings with two sisters, Whitney and Alexis, and
five brothers, Floyd, Elbert, Titus, Shawn and Christopher.
Chattanooga opens the season Monday, November 12, against
Tennessee Temple in McKenzie Arena at 7 p.m. Season tickets for a
