CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs return to McKenzie Arena Friday for the final contest of the pre-holiday slate. They take on Bryan at Noon in a day-night doubleheader with the women's team welcoming 10th-ranked N.C. State and former Head Coach Wes Moore at 7 p.m.

The Mocs are on a strong shooting run that started coming off a four-game road swing that saw the squad shoot 33.6 percent overall and 25.5 percent from 3pt range. My how things have changed. In the last six, those numbers are 47.5 percent from the floor including 39.4 percent from long range.

The emergence of Jonathan Scott and addition of A.J. Caldwell to the rotation helped those numbers. Scott is on a four-game double-digit scoring streak shooting 58.6 percent (63.2% 3pt) averaging 13.0 ppg over that span. Caldwell's made seven of his last 12 behind the arc, 58.3 percent.

Kevin Easley continues to pace the group averaging 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Jerry Johnson, Jr. (11.5) and Donovann Toatley (11.1) also tally double-figure numbers with Toatley tying his season high with 19 points Tuesday night at UT Martin.

Bryan is from just up the road in Dayton, Tenn. The Lions are 6-7 and led by E.J. Bush. Bush is averaging 18.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. He's currently seventh nationally in NAIA DII in blocks while the team is third (4.4 bpg).

NOTABLE
  • Chattanooga's 50.0 percent (31-62) performance Tuesday at UT Martin was its best against a DI program this year. Shot 62.2 percent (23-37) INSIDE the arc. The 23 2pt FG made were one less than total FG for UTM (24). There's a breakdown in the overall improvement in shooting numbers based on the 4-game skid Nov. 16-23 and in the six games since on page 4 of the notes package under "Shooting Stars".
  • A little defense-offense mix in this note. Chattanooga is 5-1 when opponents score less than 75 points, 0-7 when posting 75 or more. The squad scored 70 or more points in six straight averaging 79.8 ppg over that stretch. Tallied 66.7 ppg over first seven.
  • The Mocs assist-turnover ratio is 1.0 with five more assists (179) than turnovers (174) this year. That's been on the uptick over the last six games at 1.3 (108/84). Six straight contests with 14 or more assists. 108 dimes (18.0 apg) in that span compared to 67 over the initial seven (9.6 apg).
