ASHEVILLE---The Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team begins postseason play Saturday afternoon in Asheville, N.C. The Ingles Southern Conference Championship presented by General Shale starts with a quarterfinal matchup against ETSU at 2:30 p.m.

It's the third time in four years the two teams meet in Asheville. Chattanooga claimed the 2016 SoCon Tournament with a 73-67 triumph over the Bucs at the U.S. Cellular Center. Last year, ETSU ended the Mocs season in the quarterfinals.

This year's edition is led by the program's first SoCon Freshman of the Year Kevin Easley. Easley leads the squad averaging 14.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He's also the first Mocs freshman to earn All-SoCon honors with third team mention on the coaches selections.

Freshman sixth man Donovann Toatley had a solid two games against the Bucs this season. He averaged 15.5 points per game against them shooting 50 percent (11-22) from the floor, 62.5 percent (10-16) INSIDE the 3pt arc. Toatley's 19 points in Johnson City tied for his season high.

The game airs on ESPN+ online and via various television apps; Roku and Apple TV are quite popular. You can listen to the dulcet++ tones of "Voice of the Mocs" Jim Reynolds on 96.1 FM in Chattanooga or online via GoMocs.com as well as the TuneIn app. Follow along on twitter @GoMocsMBB or access live stats on GoMocs.com's men's basketball schedule page.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
  • Chattanooga owns 11 SoCon Tournament titles in its prior 42 years in the league. That's the most over that time period with Davidson second with eight.
  • 16th tournament meeting (9th in Asheville) with ETSU (8-7). That's the most in school history ahead of 11 against former league member Appalachian State (8-3). The Bucs and Mountaineers are the most frequent victims with eight wins over both. Western Carolina (7-1) is next in both number of matchups (tied with Furman & Davidson) and wins against. More on the series in the left-side bar on page 1 of the games and on page 6 of the postseason guide which are both linked above.
  • David Jean-Baptiste scored in double figures in each of the last seven games. He's averaging 12.7 points per contest over that span shooting 48.6 percent overall (35-72) and 41.7 percent (15-36) from long range. He's had three games with three or more steals in his brief career. Two have come against the Bucs with three in Johnson City in both of his seasons.
